Compact monochrome laser printers such as the Brother HL-2140 are now invading the working spaces of both home and office users. Problem: OEM Consumables are Expensive
The problem with most budget laser printers is the fact that only their acquisition price falls into the budget range. True, toner saving features may have been integrated into its system but then again these are minimal compared to the regular pricing of printer consumables.
The TN-330 cartridge retails close to $50 while the high yield cartridge is sold at around $70. At this rate, you'll easily catch up to the printer unit's cost in 2 to 3 cartridge replacements. Well, you got the figures right if you follow the norm of loading the printer with ONLY brand new OEM replacement cartridges. Solution: Recycle the Toner Cartridge
Of course there is a way and you will simply have to recycle an empty toner cartridge. Toner cartridges can be reused for up to 3 cycles of printing by simply refilling its hopper with fresh toner powder. You can use third party toner or toner refill kits to replenish the cartridge's toner supply as refill toner is cheaper by more than 50% compared to the toner cartridge.
Toner refill kits are typically sold in packages such as the Brother HL-2130 HL-2140 toner refill kit. Before opening the toner bottle's cap and seal, turn the bottle upside down to help loosen toner and allow it to flow easily out of the bottle.
After opening, attach the pour lid to the bottle's mouth tightly.
Remove the cartridge's plug on its non-gear side to expose the fill hole.
Position the pour lid towards the fill hole and allow toner powder to flow into the cartridge.
Once cartridge is reasonably filled with toner, set aside the bottle and lid; and seal the fill hole with plug.
To distribute toner, gently shake the cartridge to and fro.
